The main goal of the competition was to design a residential building for the elderly with community and meeting spaces both indoors and outdoors.

The proposal seeks to find the best placement for the building on a sloped plot located at the end of two streets. On the site, we find various tree species that will be vital to preserve. Thus, the final aggregation of the building responds to these requirements with a broken-floor plan designed to minimize the building's impact on the plot.

In this balance, the project proposes the union and transformation of two urban structures: the industrialized development of a housing block and detached family homes. The fragmentation of the building into smaller components with reduced floor areas allows it to address these conditions and adapt to the height limits imposed by neighboring buildings. The increased number of floors minimizes the building’s footprint, enabling a larger public green area, including the preservation of existing trees.

Regarding the building’s interior and functionality, the project proposes semi-public and collecive spaces in the form of vertically connected halls. Given the limited interior size of the apartments, these communal space of a domestic scale is proposed on each floor as an extension of the individual apartments. This spacious shared living room on each floor allows for direct interaction among neighbors and fosters community life without the need to descend to the ground floor.
